Informed by states of bureaucratic limbo and the suspension of care, the performance is built according to the repetitive, unending structure of ‘on hold’ music - eventually devolving into chaos. Working closely with musicians Michael Gould and Arthur Gould, an unrelenting score for percussion and cello compounds over the course of an hour and a half. As the music consumes its own repetitive melodies transcribed from the on-hold music of medical institutions, it culminates with an intensely visceral choreographic work performed by Gould alongside https://bengould.net/Anvil-Crawler ANVIL CRAWLER performed at Lyles &amp; King, NYC&nbsp; 2023 Anvil Crawler gives form to the electrical systems within the body, while being guided by the electrical circuit of our atmosphere and the idiosyncratic circuit of the artist’s neurology. Tuned to the formation of lightning from which the work itself is named, a choreographic structure unfolds and burns. While introducing an external electric current through the body administered by a series of electrodes, Gould’s Tourette’s Syndrome becomes unpredictably charged, newly ecstatic, and volatile - creating a language of movement that is guided by both his known condition and unknown sensation. The performance is illuminated by erratic flashes of light determined by real lightning strike data, which in turn feed the energetic movement system. Through stages of control, resistance, acceptance and abandon, the performance becomes a storm of viscerality, intimacy, and at times, joy. <img width="3234" height="2310" width_o="3234" https://bengould.net/Ardor ARDOR 2021 Livestream performance Filmed by Joseph Bacon Clothing by Gabriella Lacza Ardor is a performance by Ben Gould developed for a virtual audience. It was filmed by Joseph Bacon and streamed live on from Liberal Arts, Roxbury, and presented by the Center for Craft. Contending with transformation, power, and desire, the performance activates a set of internal and external manifestations of the body’s energy systems. These primary sources - chemical, electric, thermal, and mechanical energy - &nbsp;are employed both within the body involuntarily, and outwardly through analogous, intentional movement-based choreographies that utilize Gould’s Tourette Syndrome as a generator. Throughout the performance these physical embodiments, internalized and made visible through movement, have external counterpoints: objects and processes that expand the scale of these energy systems into new realms. &nbsp;An ice-cast stone is used to reroute the directionality of impulse, electrodes flow a subtle current through the body, charging the system and splitting roles of control - instigating a new and more deeply buried movement language to be reckoned with.
